Travel Journal of our Trip to Iceland

We left the guesthouse at 5AM the next morning to take the famously and dreadfully early Keflavik-Paris flight via Icelandair. We parked the brave Jimny in the parking lot where Magnus had asked us to leave it on the first day.

A few minutes later, one of his very friendly and punctual colleagues at Blue Car Rental checked the vehicle and bid us farewell as we headed back to Paris.

It was another magnificent stay in Iceland that would not be the last, for sure. Among the things we particularly enjoyed: definitely Kerlingarfjöll, but also revisiting Landmannalaugar in good weather and exploring Askja.

Also worth noting: we were incredibly lucky with the weather, having sunshine every day. Even when the weather wasn't very nice, it never got too bad.

Fantastic weather

We had almost no rain, except for a few drops at the end of the day. In terms of temperature, except in Askja where we had less than 10°C, we always had temperatures above 12°C (up to 20°C in the extreme north).

Once again, we truly appreciated the simplicity and hospitality of the people, whether in most guesthouses, especially Aldabol. Also in the visitor centers, like the one in Saudarkrokur, where the manager even came out to the parking lot after we left to give us even more information.

Having already visited quite a few sites and considering that this was our fifth trip there, we chose to revisit some places at the expense of others that were nevertheless essential for a first trip.

We noticed a lot more tourists this year, clearly more than on our previous trips. For our next trip, we are considering focusing on a specific part of Iceland, just as we were able to do during winter 2010.

We are planning to spend ten days or even a fortnight in the West and North Western fjords (Snaefellsnes, Strandir...) with a possible return via Kerlingarfjöll!
